Reduce the production van slowed, says trade body
Car production figures in July is still 18% over last year, but car manufacturers are worried that the end of the withdrawal will recover brake
The rate of decline of car production in the UK slowed markedly last month, but the industry remains in critical condition, the trade body SMMT, said this morning.
The car manufacturers are just under 108,000 vehicles in July, by 18% the previous year, the SMMT deposited on the success of the withdrawal of the government which led to increased demand.
The rate reduction is much slower than the first months of the year, when production fell by more than half. The production continues to decline by more than one third compared with last summer.
Paul Everitt, chief executive of SMMT, said: "The automotive industry in the UK has begun to stabilize, but remains fragile." He added that manufacturers need greater support from the government, primarily to help consumers to get loans to buy new cars. Car manufacturers are worried that the recent increase in sales will be reversed once the car scrappage scheme comes to an end, probably in October, when the funding runs out.
Van manufacturers are faring worse than the automakers, with output last month, nearly two thirds as demand across Europe remained low. Commercial vehicles accounted for less than one tenth of all cars made in Britain last month.
In the U.S., the government announced yesterday that his withdrawal scheme will be completed Monday, just a month after it began.
